CSR Strategy and Structure
BSR consults with companies throughout these sectors to help them better define and integrate CSR into their business strategies, and develop structures that drive CSR performance through the organization.
- BSR is working closely with a leading biotechnology company to incubate a new CSR task force within the firm. Through joint development of a framework, charter and work plan, a new CSR strategy is being developed that builds upon the company's guiding principles and includes key input from employees and select stakeholders.
- BSR served as a senior advisor to this global pharmaceutical company as they worked to identify CSR related economic performance indicators and metrics that would align with the Global Reporting Initiative triple bottom-line standards. The project involved the development of an economic reporting framework and specific metrics related to sourcing, workforce, product development and manufacturing, product distribution and access, financial investments, site selection and social investment.>;?
CSR Assessment and Policy Development
BSR uses a variety of consulting tools and processes to help companies develop appropriate CSR policies and evaluate their position relative to global CSR standards and leadership practices.
- BSR engaged in an extensive gap analysis through a review of CSR-related company policies to help this pharmaceutical company better understand how well its current policies and codes addressed the company's overall CSR goals and strategies. The gap analysis also examined how this company's policies and practices compared to various voluntary CSR standards and how the policies supported the company's public commitments to key standards.
- BSR worked closely with this global pharmaceutical company to help them refine their human rights policy and develop compliance processes to better address stakeholder concerns. Project research included benchmarking of other corporate human rights policies, an analysis of pharmaceutical-related labor issues in the supply chain, as well as the development of a revised human rights policy and training program.
Stakeholder Engagement and Transparency
BSR provides a range of tools and services in the areas of reporting strategy, report development and review, and engagement approaches to help companies better respond to the needs of their stakeholders.
- BSR conducted a benchmarking project to help this leading biotechnology company evaluate how other companies in the industry are incorporating community engagement strategies into their overall CSR efforts.
- BSR has reviewed draft CSR reports providing strategic input on tone, content, scope and potential stakeholder reaction for a variety of companies in the pharmaceutical industry.
Working Groups and Convenings
BSR leads and facilitates a diverse range of gatherings to help companies share critical information about issues and trends, develop and/or respond to new standards, and collaborate to address common challenges.
- BSR's Pharmaceutical Working Group provides a small, focused forum for companies within the sector to work collaboratively on current and emerging CSR issues. The group focuses on initiatives that create business value and build on existing projects and synergies between companies. Current areas of focus for the Working Group include supply chain issues and the integration of CSR throughout business operations. The group currently operates by invitation only.
Supply Chain
BSR provides counsel to companies on the spectrum of supply chain issues including strategy and policy development, risk assessment, audit and verification processes, and management systems to encourage supplier ownership. BSR also conducts internal staff trainings and supplier workshops on a wide range of supply chain issues.
- BSR provided strategic evaluation, counsel, and training to this global pharmaceutical company on their supplier management policy to help them monitor their supply chain partners more effectively. The project involved the development of training modules for suppliers and the drafting of criteria for monitoring and verification processes.
