With four years of sustainability communications expertise, Elissa works with BSR member companies in a range of sectors—including those in information and communications technology; food, beverage, and agriculture; energy; and consumer products—on various sustainability issues including reporting, stakeholder engagement, and human rights. Elissa helps facilitate BSR's Human Rights Working Group, and she also supports BSR's HERproject—a factory-based women's health initiative—by overseeing program implementation in India and Pakistan. She also manages the HERproject Toolbuilder, a web-based application to help educate female factory workers on general and reproductive health, as well as curriculum development for the program.
Prior to her role in Advisory Services, Elissa was BSR's Communications Associate for four years. In this capacity, she provided strategic marketing communications support for BSR's U.S. and Asia teams, and she produced and provided editorial direction for the BSR Insight—BSR's weekly publication—as well as BSR's Sustainability Matters webinar series. She also ensured organizational excellence through innovative internal communications systems; providing design, editing, and web support for all of BSR's offices; and played a key role in developing marketing materials for BSR's industry and service areas.
Before joining BSR, Elissa worked as the Communications Intern for GlobalGiving, a Washington, D.C.-based international development nonprofit.
Elissa holds a B.A. in political economies of industrial societies from University of California, Berkeley, where she focused on international economic development.
