Edward is BSR's Director of Research. In this capacity, he works with colleagues to ensure analytical rigor and a strong evidence base for BSR outputs, provides support in designing effective influence strategies for BSR teams, and leads the Research team in thinking through global megatrends that will impact sustainability and business opportunities in the coming years.
Edward has worked on sustainability with a focus on climate change, human rights, and governance for 16 years. Prior to joining BSR, Edward served as director of the International Climate Initiative at the World Resources Institute (WRI). At WRI, he launched the "Climate Justice Dialogue," which aims to raise ambition and enhance equity in UN climate negotiations. During two years at the World Bank, Edward desiged a training course on the social dimensions of climate change for Bank staff and development practitioners across the globe. He launched the first state-led initiative linking climate change and human rights as senior advisor at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and also lead a research and innovation think-tank as part of eight years working with the European Union in Brussels.
Edward has a B.A. in Political Science and History from University College Dublin (Ireland), an M.A. in European Studies from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), and is currently finalizing his Ph.D. in Public Administration, focusing on the nexus between human rights and climate change at Abo Akademi University (Finland). He has been teaching post-graduate courses on climate change and European Union policy for 13 years, earning the International Teacher of the Year Award at Abo Akademi in 2006. He has also published extensively on climate change and human rights and has spoken at more than 300 conferences on six continents.
