Michael brings a wealth of experience in extractives and other industry sectors throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa where our extractives members have large scale projects and CSR challenges. He has direct experience working on assurance systems that identify, mitigate, and monitor non-technical and material risks, process management, and internal coordination of local content issues during design and execution. In addition, his expertise includes identifying pilot cost opportunities and savings, designing supplier development programs and initiatives, forging multi-stakeholder delivery instruments, and promoting positive, sustainable impacts.

Prior to BSR, Michael was Managing Partner of Development Solutions Oy and undertook assignments for ExxonMobil, Rio Tinto Alcan, Gaz de France, BG Group and the World Bank Group on local content, business linkages/supplier and workforce development, and local economic opportunity programs. Michael also served with the International Finance Corporation as Senior Advisor for Business Linkages and with BP as Manager of Social Investment, where he focused on local content, supplier development as well as social and community investment programs in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.

Michael holds an M.A. in International Relations from the FU Berlin, and an M.B.A. from Strathclyde Business School (SGBS) in the UK. Michael speaks German, French, and English.
